What is Musicology?
Develop a cultural, historical and theoretical understanding of music by exploring the evolution of music across various cultures and time periods, delving in into music theory and analysis and assess the influence of music on a societal level. Both production and performance students will gain valuable insights into the context and significance of the music they create and perform.

What does Vocal Production include?
Learn about the intracacies of Vocal production–from harnessing the technical aspects of capturing high-quality vocal performances including microphone selection, positioning, and signal chain setup to exploring various vocal processing techniques such as equalization, compression, reverb, and time-based effects to enhance vocal recordings, further leading to advanced vocal editing techniques, including pitch correction and vocal comping, to achieve professional-quality results! Through hands-on projects and studio exercises, students will develop their ability to produce exceptional vocal tracks.

What is audio for visual media?
Audio for Visual Media is an engaging course designed to introduce students to the essential concepts and techniques involved in audio production for film, television, gaming, and other visual media platforms, serving as a stepping stone for students. This is an essential addition for songwriters to develop compositional skills. Through a combination of theoretical study, practical exercises, and creative projects, students will gain a solid foundation in audio post-production, sound design, and music composition for visual media, with lyricism in play. Students with the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to create compelling audio content that effectively supports and enhances visual and narrative storytelling.

What DAW will be focused on in this program?
Global Music Institute is an Ableton Certified Training Centre. Along with Ableton students will learn a variety of software that together complements their songwriting practice.

What does Sound Design entail for songwriters?
Understanding the fundamentals of sound design is an essential skill as a songwriter-producer, as it allows them to cultivate their original sound and manipulate existing sounds to fit their creative vision. This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the concepts and techniques of synthesis, allowing them to develop the skills necessary to create and manipulate sound in their future projects. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of synthesis, including waveforms, oscillators, filters, envelopes, and modulation, and how to use these concepts to create basic synth patches using subtractive, additive, and FM synthesis techniques.

Additional Information
To earn the 2-Year Artist Diploma in Songwriting & Production students have to undertake and complete the 4 semesters it mandates
Students are required to successfully complete between 55 – 60 credits to be eligible to earn the 2-Year Artist Diploma certification
The program structure and courses offered each term are subject to review.
How to Apply
Follow these steps and begin your journey at GMI!
Step 1 : Apply
GMI has two annual intakes – January and August, subject to meeting minimum enrolment numbers
Fill in the online application form to enrol for the program
Step 2 : Folio Submission
You will be required to submit 1-2 links showcasing your self produced tracks that display your current skill sets as a producer/songwriter.
Step 3 : Selection
We will contact you to arrange for an interview + audition (Fundamental Theory Test) either in person or on video call.
If accepted, GMI will send you an offer letter and fee notice. In a situation where the applicant doesn’t meet the required minimum skill-set (basis the panel, we can offer a boot camp of 4 days to prepare them for the full time program of GMI). The student will have to successfully complete the boot camp and meet the desired criteria to be eligible for progress to the 2 Yr Artist Diploma.
