Students Speak: Aditya Choudhury

Compiled by Ihtesham

“People need to know where your emotions stem from. Music doesn’t. It’s more than sounds, it’s freeing.”

Aditya Choudhury is a composer and performer, currently studying the Artist Diploma at GMI. His musical journey started in 2016 when AC/DC inspired him to begin taking guitar lessons. With a background in playing the Tabla, he quickly picked up rhythmic concepts.

Over the years, Aditya has explored various musical styles while honing his skills on the guitar. As he joined GMI, he found inspiration from his peers, teachers, and artists like Kurt RosenwinkelMateus Asato, and Charlie Parker, leading him to the world of jazz, blues, and neo-soul.

“I love exploring different styles of music. Someday I hope to create my own albums and play gigs with session artists. The best part is that I don’t even know which genre I’ll be into then!”

Below are the excerpts from a conversation exploring his musical beginnings and inspirations. Read on to learn more about Aditya.
