The Student Speak Series aims to give a platform to their voices and stories, share what drew them to GMI, how they see their artistry maturing, and their path forward <\/b><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up, I was very much aware that music had to be a part of my life, no matter what path I chose. I always felt a sense of belonging from it and it is something that continues to inspire me still\u201c.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Originating from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Ojaswini Amrita is a student at Global Music Institute currently enrolled in the <\/span>Music Production and Technology<\/span><\/a> program. Our conversation led us to discover more about their artistic journey, what being a musician is and what keeps them inspired. She draws her inspiration from artists such as Alec Benjamin, Aryan Shah, Sabrina Claudio and Maggie Lindemann.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Music was simply like my favorite hobby, my comfort and my escape, then it made me push through. I realized that music as an art and as a profession can be possible and be much bigger. Now that’s the only space I can see myself in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When did you become interested in music?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Growing up, I always had the need to blast my television speakers or my sony walkman with music. Whether I was completing my homework, playing or just doing the simplest of tasks around the house. From Indian classics and Bollywood hits to Rihanna and One Republic. I remember the favorite part of my school being the extra curricular music classes and getting to stay back after lunch to practice for random singing competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

What were you doing prior to joining GMI?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I joined GMI just a few months after passing my high school board examinations. Since I was attending a boarding school, I didn’t have access to a laptop or any kind of electronic device, so the first thing I did when I got home was download a free trial version of Ableton onto my sister’s computer and hope to at least learn the fundamentals through YouTube tutorials and short online courses.<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to pursue a career in music<\/span><\/h4>\n

Someone very close to me used to assist with minor projects in the Indian music industry back in the 1990s. They knew how musically inclined I was as a child, whenever I was back home and whenever they had some work, they used to let me tag along. I took the opportunity to just sit quietly in the corners of those tiny studio spaces and just watch and admire the experts at work. Before that whole experience, music was simply like my favorite hobby, my comfort and my escape, then it made me push through and realize that music as an art and as a profession can be possible and be much bigger. Now that’s the only space I can see myself in.<\/span><\/p>\n

What drew you to study at GMI?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I was initially keen on singing and songwriting in addition to wanting to learn how to make my own music. After desperately looking for some decent music schools around, I came across GMI. Read all of their blogs and watched all the videos they put out throughout the years. I took note of a few students’ names from GMI’s social media and struck up a conversation with them to learn more about how it truly is and how genuine and helpful it can be for my musical progress. The programme structure at GMI appeared to be the most effective and promising in India and was in line with universities around the world. This strongly helped me with the decision as now I also had a vision for my future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is there any particular class you enjoy the most?<\/span><\/h4>\n

I enjoy the Studio Recording Techniques classes as it is fully hands-on, practical and objectively challenging. The studio is where I get to see the best of both the producers as well as the artists coming in. It encompasses both of my interests.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Probably would’ve chosen to be in the music business as that way i would still be around music and musical artists!<\/span><\/p>\n
