In our commitment to bring you the best music educators from all across the globe, Global Music Institute (GMI) is very happy to announce its first Guitar Residency & Ensemble Workshop in 2013 with Rory Stuart from the 13-15th of January 2013.

Rory Stuart is a critically acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer based in New York. He has performed as the leader in groups that included artists George Garzone, Jaleel Shaw, Robert Glasper, Becca Stevens, Anthony Cox, Reggie Workman, Francois Moutin, Matt Penman, Brandon Owens, Chris Tordini, John Lockwood, Doug Weiss, Calvin Hill, Chip Jackson, Keith Copeland, John Riley, Dan Weiss, Ari Hoenig, Dafnis Prieto and Obed Calvaire.

Rory also teaches at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he designed and teaches the Advanced Rhythm Curriculum. He will be teaching the following courses at GMI:

Guitar Performance Lab

– Improvisation techniques (playing over changes, chord-scales, motivic development)
– Expanding chord vocabulary (comping, stylistic interpretation)
– Jazz repertoire development (learning tunes, memorizing changes, jazz language)

Ensemble Workshop
– Group Dynamics (learning tunes fast, effective rehearsals techniques)
– Styles (South American and Afro-Cuban)
– Improvisation (motivic development, jazz language, comping, playing over changes)

Course Duration: 3 days (13th-15th of January)

Class Duration: Guitar performance lab – 2hrs of instruction per day
Ensemble workshop- 2hrs of instruction per day
